I hoped that with this series, I would find a way to appreciate the incredible South Asian women of our generation, who are breaking boundaries and paving new paths for themselves. Moreover, I would like you to take a little bit of your time to realize how incredible the women around you are.

Especially if you are a woman! I know that at least one woman’s story in my #BelleBoss series will inspire you to follow your dreams, your vision and most importantly your heart. Even if that means breaking a few rules and many societal prejudices along the way.

Just a little introduction to yourself ?

Lihini Wijesundara

My name is Lihini Wijesundara, I’m 19 right now! I’m a full-time model and dancer. I realised this is the career path I want and that’s what makes me the happiest. So definitely went against the norms. I was born in Papua New Guinea and was there till about 5 then I moved to Sydney Australia and I’m still living here!

who inspires you as a person?

Lihini Wijesundara

I’m inspired by my closest 2 friends. They are both creatives and it’s those 2 that keep me going and push me on a daily basis. As celebrities, I’m definitely inspired by the obvious two! Beyoncé first, mostly because she does everything and most importantly all of it to such perfection. She doesn’t fear to be her best and to outshine anyone. As I find myself at times dimming down my personality to adjust to others. And second Rihanna, because not only is she talented but she is a businesswoman and she too does it all. I see myself as a businesswoman and then artist.

How did you get into modelling and how has that experience been for you so far?

Lihini Wijesundara

I really didn’t plan on modelling initially! It sort of just happened which is amazing. One of my closest friends is was literally just like hey let’s use this camera and do a shoot and it sort of just picked up from there because people were loving the posts! I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do just 9 or so months ago, all I knew is that I wanted to entertain. And now I guess I’m doing that in many different ways! It has been going so great and I’m so grateful for that, it’s all going at a great pace too.

What prompted you to start youtube and which one of your videos do you like the most

Lihini Wijesundara

I started YouTube as it was my first way of entertaining people because at this stage I didn’t quite know what I wanted to do, all I knew was I had to start and that facility was right in front of me so I used it. I love my Q&A because it just shows my craziness and it’s so unfiltered

how did you find the transition from Papua new guinea to Sydney?

Lihini Wijesundara

The transition was okay, I didn’t know English when I got here so it was a bit difficult for a small amount of time at school but I quickly adjusted. Racism is present here though, even when I was victimised to it through statements with underlying meanings and it just being there subconsciously, I really didn’t think much of it. I just minded my own business and laughed it off. I knew I would be someone influential at some point in my life and I had to believe that so none of those petty comments got in my way or created any self-doubt.

how would you describe your personal style and any fashion icons?

Lihini Wijesundara

I’d describe my personal style as a true reflection of myself! It’s often laid back as long as my hair and makeup are presented well. I don’t always feel like dressing up, but when I do, I make sure it’s different because I don’t like wearing what I see other’s wearing and in saying that Beyoncé and Naomi Campbell are definitely my icons

what do you think are your staple beauty items?

Lihini Wijesundara

The best advice I have given would have to be to both others and myself, to pursue any career they feel that is for them and not to live for someone else, to always put 100% attention and effort into everything you’re doing because that is when you’ll get the results. The Maybelline fit me concealer in the cafe is my staple item, because it’s so fast and easy to apply and the coverage is so good! Also, the Mac highlighter in the global glow, the L’Oréal sun-kissed bronzer, Redwin coconut lip balm and the Tarte lights camera lashes mascara because it adds so much volume and length! I keep my daily makeup pretty simple because I’m often dancing or running around to somewhere, but these are my staples because no matter what, I feel I still look presentable

what has been the best advice you have been given and why?

The best advice I have given would have to be to both others and myself, to pursue any career they feel that is for them and not to live for someone else, to always put 100% attention and effort into everything you’re doing because that is when you’ll get the results

What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

Lihini Wijesundara

my hopes and dreams would be to really make an impact in the way people think, to connect them more to themselves in whatever way it is.. I want to eventually be a life coach/ have an impact of that nature for that reason!

What would you say is your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement would probably have to be being able to dance for my favourite artist that I literally could only imagine doing this time last year! the artist is July, he’s an afrobeat artist from the UK, he has made so much of the I love, and I got to perform what I choreographed on stage with him when he came to Sydney
